Florida Statute 61.125 The court may appoint a parenting coordinator to assist parents in creating a parenting plan. When there are disputes regarding children issues a parenting coordinator helps parents resolve disputes by making recommendations, and providing education.
When a party seeks a modification of a parenting plan upon agreement of the parties or the court's own motion, or on a motion of a party , the court may appoint a parenting coordinator to assist with disputes regarding their parenting plan.
If there has been a history of domestic violence the court is not allowed to appoint a parenting coordinator unless both parties consent.
A parenting coordinator is an impartial third person. Unless there is a written agreement between the parties the court may only appoint a qualified parenting coordinator. FS 61.125 requires that a person meet one of the following requirements:
A parenting coordinator must be a licensed mental health professional, be licensed as a physician ,under chapter 458, with certification American Board pf Psychiatry and Neurology, be certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a family law mediator, with at least a masters degree in mental health field, , be a member of the Florida Bar, A parenting coordinator must complete 24 hours of training in parenting coordination concepts and ethics, family systems theory and application.
